It’s that time of year when all my clients are asking “what should we wear for our upcoming family session?” I love being a part of this process especially because the chose of clothing can honestly make or break a photo shoot.
There was a time when everyone was doing jeans and white tshirts or khaki with black; those days are definitely over! We have changed so much since then and now family sessions are all about having fun, being candid, and truly showing off the families personality and style. I always tell me clients our goal is to have everyone complement each other, but not be too “matchy-matchy.”
It is important to not be afraid of bold, bright colors. They will help create interest and excitement in your photos. And adding lots of layers (jackets, scarves, sweaters, ext…) is great.
I love accessories! If you love it, wear it; if you think it will work, bring it…it is better for us to have too much to work with than not enough. Hats, necklaces, belts, scarves, jewelry, headbands, love it all. Having a few great accessories will definitely complete your look.
Don’t be afraid of mixing prints as long as the colors tie together. Different textures are great, and my favorite “trick” is to have something be a “stand out” item. For example, having someone in animal print or even 1 person wearing a really bold color that ties in with other family member’s accent colors or accessories.
If you are having trouble with ideas or not sure what to do, let me know. I would love to help you formulate a plan that you will love and will look great in your photos.
